  Pre-ballet information

Jazz classes have a combination of classical ballet and American popular culture influence.  This form of dance typically has more style and energy by including more turns and leaps.  Students will gain strength, flexibility, and coordination.  Jazz classes are offered to students age 8 and up.

  Tap

  Lyrical

  Hip-hop

Pre-ballet is a fast-moving, 45-minute class designed to develop creativity and new skills in students 3.5 to 5-years-old.  In the class, we emphasize listening skills, following directions, working in groups, rhythm, and directional concepts (right, left, up, and down).  We use fun props that go along with our weekly theme to make this dancing and learning experience fun and exciting for the children!  They will also be a part of our recital in June to share everything they have learned on stage!  For more information regarding pre-ballet, please click the link below.

  Jazz

At Core Dance Academy, our dance season begins in September and ends in June with our annual recital.  We expect dancers who sign up in September to remain committed through an entire dance season so they can learn dedication and working towards an end goal.  We also offer a six-week summer session which is a great opportunity to try dance for the first time, try new styles of dance, or continue technique classes.  There is no performance for summer classes.  Please check out which classes we offer in the information below!

Hip-hop is a contemporary style of dance that is high-energy and versatile.  It is a choreography-based class that is quick and complex which improves dancer's pick-up skills.  Hip-hop is typically seen in music videos and commercials.  Hip-hop classes are offered to students age 8 and up.

Lyrical is a style of dance combining ballet and jazz techniques.  The choreography is an interpretation of the lyrics to a song and the movements are shown with strong emotions. Lyrical is offered to students age 8 and up.

  Ballet and pointe

Dancers in tap class wear shoes that have a tap on the heel and toe in order to make an audible beat when striking the floor.  Tap dancing increases a dancer's rhythm, precision, and timing.  Tap classes are offered to students age 6 and up (typically after taking two years of pre-ballet).

We encourage all dancers to start in ballet as we believe it sets a strong foundation for a dancer's training.  It teaches discipline, grace, and proper alignment.  Ballet dancers also benefit in strength and flexibility.  We offer structured ballet classes for students age 6 and up.

Pointe work is when a ballet dancer's body is fully supported on the tips of her toes when her foot is extended and supported by a pointe shoe.  Due to the challenge of this technique, we are very careful with who receives pointe shoes.  Students who take at least two ballet classes a week, attend Miss Alison's summer pre-pointe intensive, and have proven strength and flexibility in their feet will be eligible to receive their pointe shoes.  They must also be a minimum of 12 years in age.  We look at every dancer individually for the safety of each student.
